Senate Committee screens 34 ambassadorial nominees
The nominees answered questions bothering on their qualification, expertise and what they would do to ensure bilateral relations between Nigeria and other countries if confirmed
The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs has screened 34 ambassadorial nominees out of the 47 sent to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari for confirmation.
The committee, which screened 15 nominees on Tuesday, screened additional 19 on Wednesday.
The nominees answered questions bothering on their qualification, expertise and what they would do to ensure bilateral relations between Nigeria and other countries if confirmed.
The Chairman of the committee, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, enjoined the remaining nominees to get to the venue of the screening as early as 10am on Thursday to enable the committee round off the screening.
Sunmonu appreciated the Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, for presenting each of the nominees for screening.
Enang, commended the committee for taking out time despite the recess to ensure that the nominees were screened.
He commended them for spending over seven hours each of the days to ensure the success of the exercise.
Buhari on June 9 sent a list of 47 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for its consideration and confirmation.
The nomination was, however, trailed with controversies as some people alleged that it was lopsided.
Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Plateau and Ondo States senators kicked against the list.
